Job Link

115 Atwood St., Sparta NC 336-372-9675

Alleghany JobLink is a "One Stop" employment and training center. It provides individuals with access to career training and job placement services, it offers labor market information, and serves as the connection between employers and qualified workers. Our goal is to have all agencies that offer workforce development activities working together to serve customers from one location.

Individual seeking JobLink services can register for free employment and training services over the Internet. When you register online, it may permit us to provide services more quickly once you come to the JobLink center. Just go to the JobLink Online Sign-up and follow the instructions.

Partner Agencies who cooperate to help provide JobLink services include: Wilkes Community College, Employment Security Commission, Workforce Investment Act, Child Care Resources and Referral, Vocational Rehabilitation, the Alleghany Department of Social Services, and Experience Works. Contact with these agencies may be through appointment or referral. The following agencies have staff members in the JobLink office at 115 Atwood Street during normal working hours.

Workforce Investment Act
This is a federally funded program to assist unemployed or under-employed people toward self sufficiency. Services such as supportive assistance with tuition and fees, childcare, travel, on-the-job training incentives, temporary jobs, and emergency expenses are some of the services offered. Special populations served may include youth who have dropped out of high school (ages 16-21), dislocated workers who have lost their jobs due to no fault of their own, veterans, and displaced homemakers.

For applicants needing assistance and direction, employment counselors are available to evaluate the workers' interests, skills, aptitudes and abilities and match these to employers' job requirements. Information and assistance is available regarding unemployment insurance, NAFTA/TAA training programs and the TRA-Trade Readjustment Allowance program.

For employers, in addition to referral services, ESC provides Labor Market Information and assistance with Clerical Testing, Job Analysis and Specification and Personnel Records and Procedures.
